Concrete Cloth: An Innovative Versatile Construction Material by Bharat Bhushan Jindal in Trends in Civil Engineering and its Architecture in Lupine Publishers

Concrete as a construction material is recognized globally but the inquest to improve its flexibility has always attracted the attention of researchers. The increasing cost of repair work due to weathering actions, ground surface damage, see page in water canals always remained a concern. This paper focuses on to explore the manufacturing process as well as the use of Concrete canvas or Concrete cloth in the construction sector. It's being a ceramic material; Concrete Canvas may find its tremendous scope in the construction sector as a fire resistance and waterproofing material.

Improving Tectonic Geomorphology Analysis and Interpretation of River Mobility Utilizing LiDAR-derived DEMs by Saied Pirasteh  in Trends in Civil Engineering and its Architecture in Lupine Publishers

This study contributed a reliability of Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) techniques to investigate tectonic geomorphology analysis of river mobility with high resolution Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). This study interpreted the impact of tectonic geomorphology on landslides occurrence in a rugged topography. In this study, river responses were investigated by using an integration of LiDAR, geomorphology, and a field survey to determine the tectonic geomorphology signatures. The study reveals that the Zagros Folded Belt (ZFB) of Iran with the rugged topography and vegetated area is susceptible to landslides associated with the Dez River in north of Khuzestan Province wherein the Khuzestan Plains the river systems were found to be mobile and able to respond, both laterally and vertically, to the active tectonics.

Application of Preplaced Aggregate Concrete to Convert the Ballasted Railway Tracks into Slab Tracks by Milad Hosein Esfahani in Trends in Civil Engineering and its Architecture in Lupine Publishers

One of the most critical restrictions of ballasted railway tracks maintenance is the ballast undercutting and sieving over the railway bridges and tunnels. In recent years with respect to the development of in-place concrete slab track construction, using preplaced aggregate concrete technology is known as a new method to convert the ballasted railway tracks into slab track. Since no detail has been published regarding to design and construction of such systems by various railway owners, so the present study is allocated to this issue. In this matter, firstly some accomplished projects using this system has been reviewed and secondly, the detail evaluation of preplaced ballast concrete performance has been investigated in lab environment. In this former stage, by using the developed laboratory-scaled facilities, many cylindrical specimens have been constructed and tested. Consequently, their flow time and related compressive and splitting tensile strengths have been presented and the optimum injected mortar mix design have been reported.

FRP-Retrofitting RC Bridges for Stabilization in Earthquakes by Kenneth C Crawford in Trends in Civil Engineering and its Architecture in Lupine Publishers

The purpose of this abbreviated paper is to analyze the applicability of FRP (fiber-reinforced polymer)-strengthening systems for retrofitting RC (reinforced-concrete) highway bridges to stabilize structural members under earthquake conditions. Three earthquakes in California, with multiple bridge failures, drove the requirement to improve bridge design and methods of structurally upgrading critical bridge components to withstand impacts of earth tremors. Retrofitting RC bridges by encasing and strengthening bridge bents with FRP-systems provides an effective method of mitigating the impacts of earthquake loading. This analysis considers types of retrofitting applications on bridge bents and the advantages of FRP systems to increase structural member axial capacity and ductility in columns and beams.

Polyurea Coated and Plane Reinforced Concrete Panel Behavior under Blast Loading: Numerical Simulation to Experimental Results  (TCEIA) - Lupine Publishers

This research investigated the behavior of reduced scale standard reinforced concrete panels coated with various polyurea systems under blast loading. The blast mitigation performance of four coatings including two plain polyureas and two discrete fiber-reinforced polyurea (DFRP) systems was evaluated. Chopped E-glass fibers were discretely integrated in with the polyurea to develop a DFRP system. The addition of glass fiber to a polymer coating provides improved stiffness and strength to the composite system while the polyurea base material provides ductility according to a fiber length optimization study conducted by Carey and Myers (2011) [1]. Reduced scale panel blast testing was conducted. In addition, the finite element program LS-DYNA was used to model panel and coating response under blast loading. Several modeling solutions were undertaken and compared for concrete formulation. Winfrith concrete material, model and Surface Cap model, which are widely used to simulate the concrete behavior under dynamic loading, were examined. Modeling results were analyzed and compared to the experimental work to validate the conclusions.

Analytical Modelling of the Historical Diyarbakir Karasu Bridge for its Ability to Carry Civil and Military Transport (TCEIA) - Lupine Publishers

Analytical Modelling of the Historical Diyarbakir Karasu Bridge for its Ability to Carry Civil and Military Transport (TCEIA) - Lupine Publishers

In this study, the Karasu Bridge dating back to the Roman period was examined to determine whether it was suitable to carry heavy commercial and military vehicles in special circumstances. An analytical model of this bridge was created using an ANSYS program based on finite elements. On the bridge model, linear and non-linear static analyses were performed first according to the heavy vehicle loads stated in AASHTO (American Association of State of Highway Transportation Officials) then in the second stage heavy military vehicles loads were simulated. As a result of the analysis, even though linear crushes were observed at the areas where the side walls of the bridge are fixed to the piers, it was seen that Karasu Bridge was capable of safely carrying the vehicle load as stated in AASHTO and military tanks in a safety way transport.

Re-Classification of Roofs in Multi Storey Design Education and Application: A Pedagogic Approach (TCEIA) - Lupine Publishers

Re-Classification of Roofs in Multi Storey Design Education and Application: A Pedagogic Approach (TCEIA) - Lupine Publishers

Pedagogy comprises of all the actions one takes to incite learning in others. They are the instructional techniques and strategies that would allow learning to take place. It is the interactional communication between a learner and a teacher that is influenced by the social, cultural and to an extent the political views of both the teacher (educator) and the child or (the learner) (Lynn,2017). The Ghanaian construction industry has over the years aimed at improving the knowledge base of students and workers alike. Towards this a system of teaching and learning has been adopted and has been maintained as the traditional method. However, in as much as teaching has evolved all around the world, our system of teaching, training and development has not gone through so drastic a change as to meet international standards of education. There is the need to inculcate a paradigm shift in the system of teaching. In the construction of Multi-storey buildings, there are varying types of roofs that are used and each of them are associated with their very own functions, structural compositions and their interaction with the storey building itself. Roofs and their construction has evolved over time with the change in technology and the need for more functionality and the complexity in designs however their classification for teaching purposes has not evolved to suit these changes. The purpose of this paper is to propose an ideal method of teaching roofing types and classification that can be adopted for use within the universal, tertiary teaching and learning setting. In doing this we re-classify roofs of multi-storey structures based on their varying functions, construction components, technology and complexity of design to improve the learning experience of students within the construction industry. They are Aesthetic roofs, Utility roofs, Service roofs, Drainage functional roofs and Structure stabilization roofs. In view of this, case studies of various internationally acknowledged multi-storey structures were analyzed to obtain the varying proposed classes of roofs. As early on stated, there is the need for a paradigm shift in the educational system and for that to hold, there is the need for educators to improve the pedagogic approach.
